VolunteerVolunteers at United Way of Oakville are essential to the very heart and soul of the organization. The success of UWO’s annual campaigns depends greatly on volunteers in the workplace and community that help raise awareness and resources.
Volunteering provides each of us with unique benefits and insight into our community. By donating your time to United Way of Oakville you will have the opportunity to help build a stronger community and discover new paths to both personal and professional development. Our Volunteers represent the diversity of Oakville, from all age groups, cultures, abilities, and backgrounds. There are many ways in which to volunteer: United Way of Oakville is led by a group of senior volunteers elected to oversee the vision and strategic direction of the organization. The role of the board is to establish organizational policies, focus on long-term goals, evaluate CEO performance and manage funds in a fiscally responsible manner. Board members must live or work in Oakville, be knowledgeable about the community, be organized and have valuable experience in labour, business, government, or the voluntary sector. The term is three years. Attendance to monthly board meetings is mandatory as well as availability to participate in United Way events. Get Involved as a board member by contacting Barbara Burton, CEO, at (905) 845-5571, ext. 222 or e-mail barbara@uwoakville.org The Campaign Cabinet is a leading force in the development of annual campaign strategies for United Way of Oakville and is comprised of a group of experienced volunteers holding a variety of senior positions in the private and public sector in Oakville. This cabinet develops an integrated annual campaign plan, motivates and monitors resources executing the plan, conducts fundraising visits to prospects, champions the campaign in its own workplace and participates in cabinet meetings and key events. The Campaign cabinet members must hold a senior position in the private or public sector in Oakville and offer a commitment of at least one year. Get Involved with Campaign Cabinet by contacting Dawn Essoe, Director of Resource Development at (905) 845-5571, ext. 235, or e-mail dawn@uwoakville.org. Each year, members of the Community Impact Cabinet (CIC) review agency funding applications, make funding recommendations and create policies related to the process. Members must be team-players, with strong analytical skills and exhibit creative-thinking and knowledge of the health and social services sector. CIC members are expected to attend monthly meetings and UWO events. Get Involved with the Community Impact Cabinet by contacting Chandra Hardeen, Director of Community Impact at (905) 845-5571, ext. 227 or by email at chandra@uwoakville.org United Way of Oakville relies on volunteers from our community to assess the agencies applying for funding Role:
