In an effort to help local community organizations enhance their organizational capacity, United Way of Oakville (UWO) established a Capacity Building Grant stream in 2005. Capacity Building Grants are made available to both UWO funded and non UWO funded agencies.

UWO grants up to $5,000 for projects such as translation of marketing materials, fundraising consultants, strategic planning, staff and volunteer training programs, updated computer software, and database and website enhancements.

In 2008/2009, the UWO Capacity Building Grants will not be available. Please check back in Spring 2009.

Category C Funding is an initiative whereby the Region of Halton, in partnership with United Ways in Halton, provide one-time funding to community based agencies, self-help or grass roots agencies within Halton Region. This funding is one time funding not to exceed $2,000 per application for operating expenses, projects (e.g. board development, promotional materials etc.) or small capital purchases.

Applications are now available and agencies interested in submitting a request for funding, are asked to submit requests to the United Way in which their head office is located.

Money raised during the annual campaign benefits United Way’s Community Impact Fund. This fund supports programs and services offered by more than 30 local agencies and other initiatives intended to build the social service capacity of the Oakville community.

Donations are distributed each spring to provide immediate and consistent funding for those programs and services relied upon by more than 30,000 people each year.

Outcome Measurement is a form of program evaluation that looks at impacts on clients and on community.  It provides an agency with a system to continually monitor and improve its service delivery and impact.  All agencies funded by United Ways in Halton must use Outcome Measurement as part of program planning.

From 2004-2007, United Ways in Halton collaborated on a project to assist agencies build their capacity to move toward an Outcome Measurement framework for program evaluation.  Customized training specifically focused on Outcome Measurement was provided thanks to funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
